Hi, my name is

Yassin.

I'm a Data Professional

A Data professional with a strong foundation in Artificial Intelligence. Having recently completed my MSc in AI at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, I’m eager to leverage my expertise to design and build robust data pipelines that power intelligent systems. My interests lie in the intersection of data infrastructure and advanced AI applications, including LLMs, Reinforcement Learning, and Recommender Systems. Explore my projects, experience, and insights on this website.

Experience

Data Engineer - Oxaigen
Jun 2022 - Sep 2022
Responsible for setting up data pipelines using the SQL workflow tool dbt to facilitate AI models used in healthcare.
Research Assistant - University of Amsterdam
Aug 2021 - feb 2024
  • Developed recommender system-based chatbots using Python for experimental research at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR). Built the frontend using the JavaScript library React.
  • Established and programmed (Python) social robotics research, translating theoretical concepts into practical, executable experiments.

Education

2021 - 2024
MSc Artificial Intelligence
Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
Grade: 7.7
  • Computer Vision
  • Reinforcement Learning
  • Natural Language Processing
  • Deep Learning
  • Social Robotics

In my thesis, I developed a multi-objective reinforcement learning (RL) framework that simultaneously optimizes user engagement and content diversity in large-scale recommender systems. By building a custom simulation and testing different policies, I showed how deep RL methods can discover flexible trade-offs among competing objectives—leading to more dynamic, user-centric recommendations.

Experiments were conducted on the supercomputer infrastructure DAS-6.

2018 - 2021
BSc Information science
University of Amsterdam
Grade: 7.7
  • Data Science
  • Statistics
  • Human-Computer Interaction

In my bachelor thesis, I explored why people share misleading COVID-19 information online. By conducting an online survey and analyzing social and psychological factors such as the need for connection and altruism, I found that while many variables had little impact, altruism emerged as a key driver behind misinformation sharing.

AI Report (POKI) Transcripts
AI Report (POKI) Transcripts
This is a website I built that contains transcripts of the AI Report podcast by Alexander Klöpping and Wietse Hage. The website is built using Next.js and hosted on Vercel. The transcripts are generated using the open-source Whisper model.

Reproducibility Challenge 2022 - Fairness Guarantees
In this research paper, we examine the fairness algorithm Shifty. Shifty guarantees that a model adheres to the fairness constraint in the case of demographic shifts in the deployment distribution. As part of the Machine Learning Reproducibility Challenge 2022, this research paper was awarded by Kaggle with a prize of $10,000 in credit for the Google Cloud Platform. The paper was presented at the NeurIPS conference in 2023.
